During the last two weeks before the spring break, the 1st class pupils participated in a workshop that combined literature and art. The workshop was titled A hungry caterpillar since that was the title of the children’s book we read and interpreted. First, the teacher read it and then pupils took part by telling certain words from the book such as colours and food. They loved the story, so after we finished reading, they made their colourful caterpillars using toilet rolls, tempera, glitter, googly eyes, pompons, glittery wire, and moosegummy. They even made little books with their name on the front cover, so their caterpillar looked like they were reading. In the following photographs, you can see how the caterpillar looks in the imaginations of the youngest pupils in the school and the 3rd graders who saw how much fun the 1st graders had, so they joined in. All of them had great fun. They expressed themselves artistically and in English. And the caterpillar became a beautiful butterfly!
On 7 October we visited one of Crotian national parks which is also the oldest one. We had a lot of fun on the way there...as well as on the way home...At first the weather was cloudy but it wasn't raining. However, our luck didn't last...During the second half of our sightseeing the rain started...and we hurried to the bus...Some of us got wet more than others.
Despite the weather we had the best time ever!
P.S. It was also our teacher's birthday and our present to her was a folk song wishing her to live until she's 105 and then all over again!
